In fact, it is quite the opposite. Political prosecution of dissidents and police brutality moved up a notch after the announcement of the withdrawal. The youngest dissident arrested was just a 12-year-old; on 31 August, police officers indiscriminately beaten commuters in a tube station and had a two-hour lockout that thwarted rescue and reporting of the event. These are blatant assaults of basic human rights. We need to stop Hong Kong from downward spiraling into a police state. In this fight for freedom, please stand with Hong Kong.
